BELLEVUE COSMETIC DENTIST SLIDE SHOW
The Bellevue Dentists at Brookside Dental are always looking for better ways to serve our patients and friends. Recently, we put together a short two minute Bellevue Cosmetic Dentistry Slide Video Collage of some of our recent Cosmetic Dental patients. We are very proud of the work that we have done and the many smiles that we have enhanced. The video represents a sampling of many types of work performed to create or enhance smiles. Each person shown in the video has had different types of Cosmetic Dentistry work performed to give the beautiful end results exhibited in each situation. The work includes extensive restoration with all porcelain crowns and porcelain veneers as well as tooth colored fillings and tooth colored dental bonding. Several cases involve cosmetic movement of a few teeth to give perfectly aligned smiles. Most cosmetic dental smile alterations and creations involve some type of tooth whitening in addition to the other cosmetic dentistry work that is done.

BELLEVUE DENTIST PATIENTS HAVE DIFFERENT NEEDS AND DESIRES
BELLEVUE DENTISTRY Should Be Tailored for the Unique Needs of Each Patient.
At our Bellevue Dentist Office, it would be nice if every patient that called us after a referral from a friend or after visiting our website fit into a cookie-cutter mold for dental services. Everyone would get the same dental work done at the same cost and, most importantly, they’d all see the same positive results and have the same beautiful smiles. An additional benefit to both the patients and dentists would be no hassle insurance, since the insurance companies would be paying the same amount for everyone.
Unfortunately that is not how dentistry works. In reality, the needs and desires of each of our Bellevue Dental patients are unique. Each dental patient should have their needs and desires uniquely tailored to them. Every dentist should realize the following things:
• Each dentist is in a unique market with a unique set of patients
• Each dentist has been in business for a unique amount of time
• Each dentist is offering a unique and hopefully pleasant experience
• Each dentist has a unique in-office ambience
• Each dentist has a unique approach to utilizing new dental technology
• Each dentist has a unique website, assuming they have one
• Each dentist advertises differently to attract new patients
• Each dentist communicates uniquely with his or her patients
• Each dentist utilizes different dental labs and suppliers
• Each dentist has unique hygienists, assistants, and front office support staff
Many principles of Bellevue Dentistry apply across all, or most, dental practices and dental specialties. However, with so many unique variables and unique characteristics related to each dentist and their resulting dental work, the approach to dentistry will vary among different dentists. These variables as they are combined will result in a unique outcome for each dentist. Each dentist should work with each patient to customize the work required to reach the goals of each of their patients, which will always be unique. Each dentist must have the proper equipment and properly trained staff to deliver a high quality dental product to every patient.
At Brookside Dental Bellevue, we expect to deliver the highest quality of dentistry that can be provided. We accomplish this by continually updating our technology and office, having highly trained and friendly staff members, and through continuing education classes taken by our dentists and staff members. We have an onsite porcelain artist to insure consistently high quality porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns. As Bellevue Dentists, we work with each individual person to customize the work required to reach the goals of each of our patients. Our Bellevue Dentist approach and treatment plan will always be unique for each person. Additional information regarding general family dentistry and cosmetic dentistry can be obtained at our Brookside Dental Bellevue website.

BELLEVUE DENTISTS CREATE COMFORTABLE DENTAL ATMOSPHERE FOR CHILDREN WITH A TEDDY BEAR CHAIR AND A LARGE GREEN FROG
Using a giant Teddy Bear Chair to help children feel comfortable and at ease when they visit their Bellevue Dentists was the idea of Dr Patricia Pauley at Brookside Dental Bellevue. Getting children to feel comfortable with their dental environment is a major step toward maintaining a healthy mouth by preventing tooth decay and establishing good oral health at an early age.
The Teddy Bear Chair was patented by Bellevue Dentist Dr Patricia Pauley and was featured in the Seattle Times Newspaper (Monday, August 12, 1991, pg 4) in a large article about Seattle Area Inventors’ Dreams. Children at Brookside Dental Bellevue under the age of 12 are examined and have their teeth cleaned in the friendly confines of the Teddy Bear Chair. All young children that are first time visitors to our Bellevue Dentistry Offfice are given a free ride in the patented Teddy Bear Chair. In addition to the Teddy Bear Chair, the entire room is set aside for children and is decorated with balloons and stuffed animals of all types. After the children have had their initial visit and free ride in the chair, they are comfortable and relaxed during future visits to Brookside Dental Bellevue.
A large green frog is used by Bellevue Family Dentists to assist in the training of young children about the proper method of tooth brushing to insure good oral hygiene. Upon learning the proper way to brush teeth with the green frog demonstration, children will have acquired the first step for keeping their mouths healthy. As Children get older, the Bellevue Dentists at Brookside Dental will educate the children and their parents about the value of dental sealants. Dr Patricia Pauley was among the very first
Seattle Family Dentists to use and understand the potential value of dental sealants, which she has been using for about 25 years on her young patients.
Although Dr Pat and Dr Cindy specialize in Cosmetic Dentistry, they continue to provide exceptional family dentistry to all of their patients and their families. Additional information about the many dental services that they provide can be read by visiting other areas of the Bellevue Brookside Dental Website.

BELLEVUE COSMETIC DENTISTRY BONDING GIVES A BEAUTIFUL SMILE
Cosmetic Dental bonding is done with a composite resin material that is used to fix various dental problems. The composite bonding material can be used to fix some breaks, cracks and chips on teeth and some spaces between teeth called diastemas. If the tooth imperfections or spaces are large, bonding may not be an option, in which case porcelain veneers or crowns may be required to give a good cosmetic result.
Anterior Dental Bonding was used to create this beautiful smile. Patient of Dr Patricia Pauley, Brookside Dental, Bellevue, WA
To start the tooth bonding procedure, your Bellevue Dentist will prepare your tooth or teeth for treatment by roughening the surface to be repaired and then recontouring the surface to acccept the composite resin material. Surface roughening is performed to allow the resin to adhere properly to the tooth structure when it hardens. When the tooth or teeth are properly prepared, the cosmetic dentist will apply a mixture of two different materials which have an adhesive and a catalyst in them. The putty-like composite material, which is tooth colored is applied and sculpted to correct the problems. The composite material is then carefully applied to the properly prepared area of the tooth to be fixed. The tooth-colored composite is then shaped and smoothed to accomplish the desired cosmetic appearance. To harden the composite resin material once it is placed on the tooth, a high intensity light is used to cure it by your Bellevue Cosmetic Dentist. If the area to be fixed is large or deep, more than one layer of composite material may have to be applied and cured separately. After shaping the material, the newly fixed area is smoothed and polished to look like the natural tooth structure. If done correctly by someone well trained in cosmetic dentistry, the finished tooth colored composite should have the same appearance as its adjacent natural tooth structure. Any tooth whitening that is needed or desired should be done prior to the use of cosmetic dental bonding resins, because the resin is not effected by the bleaching process and remains its original color. Generally, composite bonding is done on teeth after they have been bleached. At that time after bleaching, the tooth-colored bonding material is matched to the newly whitened teeth. Cosmetic tooth bonding with composite material can usually be completed during one office visit, depending upon the amount of repair needed and the number of teeth to be treated. Cosmetic cases that are complicated involving multiple teeth may require more than one visit to your Bellevue Cosmetic Dentist.
COSMETIC DENTISTRY TOOTH BONDING BENEFITS
Cosmetic dental tooth bonding is quick and generally able to be finished in one visit to the dentist if they are properly trained in cosmetic dental work. The finished product is usually relatively long lasting, assuming the patient takes normal care of their teeth. Tooth colored dental bonding is a wonderful alternative to more extensive and more expensive cosmetic dentistry treatment that is done with porcelain veneers, crowns, and bridges. Cost is often a concern for patients. The cost of dental tooth bonding varies depending upon three things: (1) the number of teeth that are repaired; (2) the size of the individual areas that are bonded; and (3) the geographic area of the country where the procedures are performed.
Two other important facts about dental bonding should be pointed out. First, very frequently, dental bonding will be at least partially covered by your dental insurance, because in many cases the problems are primarily structural rather than just cosmetic. Or they may be a combination of structural and cosmetic, where the structural should be given preference as to payment by an insurance company. Strictly cosmetic dental work is never covered by your dental insurance. Since dental bonding can straighten, whiten, fill spaces and generally improve the overall appearance of your smile, the work is usually worth the cost even if your insurance does not pay any it. Second, check the amount of advanced cosmetic dental study and training that a dentist has done, especially if you are having extensive bonding performed on your front teeth. Even though there may be extensive structural problems, anterior tooth work is always going to have some cosmetic dentistry component to it. Therefore there is both a technical aspect and an artistic aspect to dental bonding, especially on anterior teeth.

3 commentsDo We Notice Teeth and a Beautiful Smile First or Something Else
ARE A BEAUTIFUL SMILE AND YOUR TEETH NOTICED FIRST WHEN YOU MEET NEW PEOPLE?
BEAUTIFUL SMILES NOTICED FIRST
Teeth and a Beautiful Smile are among the first things noticed by a stranger, much of the time. However, it depends on whether women or men are being observed. The face and head, along with the body, are perceived differently by men and women. This is according to a recent study by the Baluke Dental Studios and published in Gallery Dental Smile Designs by Patient News Publishing 2009. Therefore, this is very recent information about how a smile is perceived by people.
WOMEN have their eyes noticed first by men according to the survey. The Smile and Teeth were the second thing about women that was noticed by men. Those things noticed next by men about women were the body, clothing, hair and other things combined. The percentages of what men noticed first about women according to the study are indicated below:
THINGS NOTICED FIRST ABOUT WOMEN
- EYES - 39%
- SMILE - 25%
- BODY - 14%
- CLOTHING - 12%
- HAIR - 3%
- OTHER - 7%
MEN have their Teeth and Smile noticed first by women according to the survey. Eyes were the second thing about men that was noticed by women. These first two things were followed in order by the clothing, hair and body (these two were tied) and followed by other things combined. The percentages of what women noticed first about men in the survey are indicated below:
THINGS NOTICED FIRST ABOUT MEN
- SMILE - 40%
- EYES - 35%
- CLOTHING - 11%
- BODY - 4%
- HAIR - 4%
- OTHER - 7%
It was not surprising that a person’s teeth and smile ranked so high in the survey with both women and men. It is certainly one of the first things that people see. I think most people quickly notice a beautiful or handsome smile and also they notice a very poor smile. A poor smile is greatly accented if there are missing, crooked or discolored teeth. On the other hand, if you have an unsatisfactory smile, you should visit your Seattle Cosmetic Dentist or your Bellevue Cosmetic Dentist, there are many modern dental techniques such as porcelain veneers and crowns can be used to create a smile very attractive. At Brookside Dental in Bellevue, WA, we are dedicated to giving people beautiful and handsome smiles that are durable as well as attractive. Dr Cynthia Pauley and Dr Patricia Pauley provide excellent highest quality family and cosmetic dental services in the Bellevue,WA, and Seattle, WA, metropolitan areas.
No commentsBellevue Cosmetic Dentists Create Beautiful Smiles for Men
BELLEVUE COSMETIC DENTISTRY WORKS FOR MEN THE SAME AS WOMEN
Like the handsome men in the five photographs below, men in general are able to acquire significantly attractive smiles with various Cosmetic Dentistry procedures. In addition to the increased physical attractiveness resulting from Cosmetic Dental work, men with an outgoing personality are going to become even more outgoing after their smiles are altered or changed. They will, like women, most likely have better personal lives and better work opportunities subsequent to having cosmetic dental work done. In some cases only minor alterations need to be performed, such as tooth whitening, while in other cases an extreme makeover is needed with multiple procedures being involved.

Most articles and advertisements related to Cosmetic Dentistry show photographs of beautiful women. The reason for this is two-fold. First, all women want to look beautiful and younger. Just look at all of the nutrition, exercise, hair and cosmetics advertisements that tell women how to be slim and beautiful. Cosmetic surgery advertisements are primarily aimed at women. Therefore, is it any wonder that Cosmetic Dentists resort to the same thing in their advertising and on their websites, which is displaying beautiful smiles that have been created for women. These stunning smiles are one of the first things that people see on a person. Second, all men enjoy looking at beautiful women. Again, it is the beautiful and stunning smiles that are one of initial attractions for men and one of the major influences on how attractive a women’s face is perceived by men. If you look at the trade magazines for the dental field, they also exhibit beautiful smiles on women for the most part.

Recently, more and more men of all ages are having cosmetic surgery performed such as hair transplants, face lifts and tummy tucks. Like women, men also want to look handsome and more youthful. Therefore, it is not suprising that many men are having Cosmetic Dentistry work done in an effort to look better. Women and men both want to be more successful at work and in their personal life. In an earlier blog post, I discussed some surveys that indicated that attractive people have more success in life and business than other people.

I thought it would be interesting to show you some photos of men that have had beautiful Cosmetic Dental work done in our office at Brookside Dental in Bellevue, WA. Patients of both Dr Cindy Pauley and Dr Patricia Pauley are represented, and all of the Cosmetic Dentistry that was completed on these men has been done within the last two years. They vary in age, but they all have in common very attractive smiles.

All five of these nice looking men have had their smiles altered significantly by their Cosmetic Dental work here at Brookside Dental in the Seattle, WA, area. In each person’s case, the work has been different. However, they have all had their work result in beautiful smiles. Additional dental information is available on our website that deals with all of the various Cosmetic Dental procedures that were used to create these five handsome smiles.

Seattle Vocational Institute Dental Clinic Has Annual Fund Raiser for the Dental Assistant Program
Photo: Dr Gil Pauley, Dr Pat Pauley, Dr Pollene Speed, Dr Haydon Mar, Dr Richard Ferguson at Seattle Vocational Institute Dental Clinic Fund Raiser
Each year the Seattle Vocational Institute has a fund raiser for the Dental Assisting Program to insure that as many students as possible have access to the program and are trained in a modern dental environment for entry level employment within the dental industry. SVI’s dental assistant program has been granted full accreditation by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. The Seattle Vocational Institute Dental Assisting Program is part of the Community Outreach Program designed to improve the health and well being of people in the Seattle, WA, area. Along with the associated dental hygiene program, it is designed to provide oral health care to childern in great need of dental access and also it gives special attention and focus to minorities and underserved segments of the population. One way that childern can best receive preventative dentistry is by the application of dental sealants to their teeth. The focus on minorities is also a major goal in choosing students for both the dental assisting program and the dental hygiene program. The success of the dental assisting school is exceptional and enjoys a student placement of nearly 100% for those students that successfully complete their training into dental jobs throughout the Seattle area. Both the dental assisting and the dental hygiene programs have state-of-the-art clinical teaching facilities. They are associated with Seattle Central Community College. They have a very strong board of directors composed of dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and other professionals associated with the field of dentistry. Dr Pollene Speed, in addition to having a private dental practice, is the Director of the SVI Dental Assistanting Program. Dr Speed is also the Chairperson of the Acceptance Committee for the University of Washington Dentistry Program. Dr Gil Pauley serves as Chairperson of Board of Directors for the SVI Dental Assistanting Program where he has worked with Dr Speed for about five years. Prior to that they were associates at the University of Washington where they collaborated and published two peer-reviewed scientific papers. Dr Pat Pauley worked with Dr Speed for three years on the Acceptance Committee for the University of Washington Dentistry Program.

No commentsEndowed Student Support Fund from Doctors at Brookside Dental
GILBERT B. PAULEY Endowed Student Support Fund
Dr Gilbert B. Pauley is a professor emeritus of SAFS and a past member and leader of the Washington Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (Coop Unit). Gil had a long, distinguished career at the School and Coop, serving from 1974 until 1997. He currently works with his wife (Dr Patricia Pauley) and his daughter (Dr Cindy Pauley) who are family and cosmetic dentists in the Seattle, WA, area. Gil takes care of the business and internet aspects of their dental practice at Brookside Dental, Bellevue, WA.
In 2002, Gil and his wife Dr Patricia Pauley established a fund to support UW and Washington State University students conducting Coop research. The fund has been used to award graduate students for best oral presentations and scientific poster presentations at the Unit’s Annual Cooperators Meeting. The funds pay for travel expenses to conferences, where the students present the results of their research. In 2007, through the cooperative effort of the University of Washington and the Drs Pauley (Gil and Pat), the award fund established in 2002 became a permanent “Endowed Student Support Fund” at the University of Washington.
The Coop Unit, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in May 2007, is one of 40 units in 38 states that constitute the national Cooperative Research Unit Program (part of the US Geological Survey). Working with universities, state fish and wildlife agencies, and the Wildlife Management Institute, the various Coop Units coordinate research and graduate training programs. The longstanding relationship that the University of Washington Coop Unit has had with SAFS has yielded mutually beneficial results, providing opportunities and funding for numerous students to pursue research, and in turn, helping the Coop address pressing wildlife and fish management issues.
Gil explained why they chose to support student travel: “Attending scientific conferences is critical to student development. It gives students the chance to practice communicating in front of a group of peers about their work; and, by presenting their work before it’s published, they have a chance to get some feedback.” He added, “These conferences enable students to interact and network with the rest of the scientific community.” Also, this is a way that we as a family can give something back to the University of Washington, where I, my wife and my daughter all received a major portion of our educations.
Several winners of the Pauley Travel Award spoke to the value of the fund: Jennifer McIntyre—oral presentation winner, 2006—said “This generous award allowed me to travel to Newfoundland, Canada, for the Seventh International Congress on Fish Biology, where I was awarded the best student paper in my session. Without the Pauley Award, the trip would have been prohibitively expensive.”
Mike Mazur—oral presentation winner in 2005—used the fund to attend the Hydroacoustic Mobile Survey Workshop in Wyoming. He reflected, “The award enabled me to present my research to applied research scientists and managers, beyond the Pacific Northwest, at a small, informal venue, where I forged valuable relationships critical to any young scientist’s success. Thanks to the Pauley Fund, I was able to bridge the gap between the academic and applied science world and interact with a group of researchers that ordinarily would not know about my work.”
We at the SASF are pleased to announce the establishment of the Gilbert B. Pauley Endowed Student Support Fund. This fund will help ensure travel funding, in perpetuity, for students awarded at each year’s Annual Cooperators’ Meeting.
We extend our gratitude to Gil and Pat Pauley for their generous support of students in the Coop and SAFS programs. For more information on giving at SAFS, please contact Cara Mathison, caram@u.washington.edu, 206-685-1456.
